Today, more than 180 children and adults have places to eat, to live and learn. They also work together under the roof of Beluga School for Life in Phang-Nga. Its located in 43 rai of land at Ban Na Nai, Thung Maphrao sub-district of Thai Muang under the administration of Prof..Dr.Jurgen Zimmer. The project came into existence since February 2005, when Mr. Neils Stolberg, owner of Beluga Shipping Company from Germany, made a visit to the site at Ban Nanai and agreed to finance the school for life for ten years. The School for Life was first founded in Chiang Mai province of Thailand with Prof. Dr. Zimmer as Co-founder. It accepted children from different backgrounds such as orphans, street children and children who experienced abuse or brutality. But in Phang-Nga it is mainly for Tsunami survivors. Children here are privileged to learn under a unique concept which provides them with opportunities to practice and trial for real life experiences. The executive director said this paved the way for the children to be entrepreneurs when they grow up. The Beluga School for Life, Phang-Nga, is today a small community where members live like in a big family in this compound. It comprises accommodation, school and dormitories plus offices. They live, study and learn to share and work together. Even though its run by a foreign organization, it still applies the self sufficiency economy suggested by HM the King of Thailand. One of the members who is a cook, backs up the executive directors vision saying that most ingredients are from their farm.
