She received her Doctor of Education degree from the [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Massachusetts_Amherst University of Massachusetts Amherst] in 1977.<ref name=":1" /> She worked for the [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Foundling New York Foundling] and [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Vernon_City_School_District_(New_York) Mount Vernon City School District] in the 1960s, headed the [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Caedmon_School] in [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan Manhatten] in the 1970s, taught at [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufts_University Tufts University], held a fellowship at [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_University Yale University] from 1984 to 1986, and oversaw early childhood education at New York City's Agency of Child Development from 1985 to 1987.<ref name=":0" /> She became an associate professor of education at [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/State_University_of_New_York_at_New_Paltz SUNY New Paltz]] in 1987 and was promoted to full professor in 1994.<ref name=":1" />

Rambusch's papers are included in the American Montessori Society records, which are held at the [https://wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Connecticut University of Connecticut]'s Archives and Special Collections.<ref name=":2" />

== Personal life ==
Mary McCormick married liturgical designer Robert Edward Rambusch (1924–2017), a University of Toronto classmate, in 1951.
